Queen's Ware — Cream-Coloured Earthenware

Wedgwood 對英國陶瓷業的最大貢獻就是成功的發展出乳白陶器. 並在1765年獲得英國女皇CHARLOTTE定訂為皇家御用餐具, 命名為Queen's  Ware (皇后御用器皿). 這項殊榮讓wedgwood在上流社會中漸漸嶄露頭角, 也讓歐洲皇室紛紛前來訂製。

One of Wedgwood's greatest contributions to the British pottery industry was the successful development of its refined cream-coloured earthenware. In 1765, Queen Charlotte commissioned Wedgwood to produce a tableware service for royal use, and subsequently granted it the prestigious name “Queen's Ware.” This royal patronage greatly enhanced Wedgwood's reputation among the British aristocracy and upper classes, and helped establish the company as a leading name in the European ceramics market, attracting commissions from royal courts across Europe.

皇后瓷製作工藝 (Manufacturing Process)

皇后瓷以精選的淺色黏土與研磨燧石（flint）調製陶土胚體，經成形、乾燥後先進行第一次「素燒」（biscuit firing）。素燒後的器物浸掛或施以細緻的釉料，再進行第二次「釉燒」（glost firing），使透明釉熔融並與陶體緊密結合，形成 Queen's Ware 特有的細緻、潔白乳黃色澤與光滑表面。

Queen's Ware was made from carefully selected light-coloured clays blended with finely ground flint. After shaping and drying, the ware was first fired to a biscuit state. A finely prepared glaze was then applied before a second firing, known as the glost firing, fused the glaze firmly to the ceramic body. This two-stage firing process produced the refined, smooth surface and characteristic pale cream-white appearance associated with Wedgwood Queen's Ware.
